Surface Preparation

Dry Abrasive Blasting

This time tested method is the work horse of our industry. Cor-Ray utilizes 8 ton bulk blast pots and Blastrac machines to minimize down time while maximizing production. All our units have recently been upgraded to meet current safety, reliability and production expectations.

Let our experienced and knowledgeable staff select the correct blast media, containment and work plan to ensure a safe and efficient schedule to meet your critical path requirements.

Wet/Vapor Abrasive Blasting

An environmentally friendly option for abrasive blasting, this system uses a water and sand slurry mix under pressure to prepare the surface. By removing dust that is created by dry abrasive blasting, this method eliminates the need for containment while reducing clean-up costs.

Ideal for buried pipelines, spheres, vessels tanks and concrete, if it can be done with dry blasting we have the equipment to provide you the same profile and cleanliness using water technology.

Vacuum Blasting/Power Tooling

Vacuum blasting and power tooling is a viable option for removing hazardous materials from your facility. Like the name suggests, the hazardous materials are blasted or mechanically removed from the substrate and contained in a canister for disposal. This method is best suited for small, sensitive environments.

High Pressure Water Blasting

Cor-Ray Painting Co. has extensive experience using water blasting as a safe, effective way of removing a wide range of chemicals and contaminants from concrete and steel surfaces. Pressure washing allows us to prep a surface to be void of all visible rust, dirt, previous coatings, loose scale, and foreign matter that would otherwise be detrimental to surface preparation. We use both hot, cold and steam water washing to meet the demands and needs of our customers.

Lead Abatement

Lead based paint coatings provided superior corrosion resistance until 1978 when the federal government determined that lead was a health risk and legislatively dictated that lead be removed from all paints. Obviously that leaves countless steel structures, tanks, pipelines, power generating stations, refineries, just to name a few, with hazardous, lead based paints that require remediation.

Over the last 25 years, Cor-Ray Painting Co. has safely and effectively abated lead and other hazardous materials from a multitude of structures and environments. We strive to diligently abate hazardous materials from job sites in a safe and professional manner.

In addition to our standard safety training, all our lead abatement employees receive extensive training in lead awareness and hazardous waste disposal. Each job is supervised by a certified “Lead Competent Person”, SSPC C5, Supervisor/Competent Person Training for De-leading Industrial Structures

Corrosion Control

There is a wide range of paint coating systems for steel structures to meet your specific project needs. Cor-Ray Painting Co. has what it takes to help you to protect your steel structure worldwide. Our years of surface preparation and coating application on a multitude of steel surfaces and continual training of our employees allows Cor-Ray Painting Company to complete every job in a professional manner. Fireproofing

Ablative Coatings

Cementitious and Intumescent systems are the cornerstones for passive fire protection for both commercial and industrial arenas. CRPC embraces the life saving capabilities of these coatings as demonstrated by our dedication to each project. CRPC works closely with our suppliers and specifying engineers to meet or exceed all federal, state or local codes, as we serve the Southern California area.

Intumescent

Intumescent coatings are predominately used areas where aesthetically pleasing fireproofing systems are required. These coating systems provide fire protection by swelling up to 50 times their original coating thickness to provide a protective thermal barrier.

Some of the benefits to intumescent coatings are:

Applied in a similar fashion as standard coatings to provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance

Lightweight and easily applied to existing structures

Intumescent systems are ideal for both commercial and industrial applications. While there are two different standards for commercial, IBC Codes, and industrial, Insurer’s Requirements – Factory Mutual and Industrial Risk Insurers, intumescent systems, Cor-Ray Painting Co. has the knowledge and experience to provide you with a successful coating application.

Cementitious

Cementitious fireproofing is a flame retardant spray primarily used on hidden structural steel members to facilitate safe egress during a fire. Fireproofing materials come in a variety of density and can be applied in thicknesses to meet a 4 hour fire rating.

  • Benefits of Cementitious Coatings
  • Easily applied by spray or trowel
  • Lightweight – one-third the weight of concrete for equal fire protection
  • Excellent physical properties – hard & durable
  • Cost effective

Specialized Applications

Metalizing

Cor-Ray Painting Co. owns and operates twin wire, arc spray metalizing systems, capable of high production, field application of TSA (thermal sprayed aluminum), TSZ (thermal sprayed zinc), or their alloys. The use of metal coatings for corrosion protection is experiencing increasing growth, as owners are recognizing that it is the most cost-effective means of providing long-term corrosion protection. Major growth industries for metalizing include oil and gas transmission and process facilities, wind towers, water and wastewater storage, transmission and treatment facilities, and a wide variety of military, aerospace, public and private applications. Recently, Cor-Ray Painting Co. completed the application of metalizing application to a variety of structures including;

  • Reading Room Dome, Main Library, San Diego, Ca.
  • Angels Gate Lighthouse, Cabrillo Beach Breakwater, Los Angeles Harbor, San Pedro, Ca.
  • Colorado River Aqueduct Regulating Gates, Hemet and San Jacinto, Ca.
  • California Aqueduct Regulating Gates, Pearblossom, Ca.
  • Launch Complex Infrastructure, Kennedy Space Center, Fl.

We look forward to discussing how the process metalizing and protective metal coating can help your facility soon.

Plural Component

Plural component coatings are an ideal solution for any coating job that cannot be met through traditional coating systems. Plural components coatings are a unique 2 part, high solids coating. These two part coatings are labeled Component (A): Resin or Base and Component (B): Co-reactant or Curing Agent. The 2 components are mixed in various ratios and rapidly cure through chemical crosslinking. This crosslinking allows these epoxy, polyuethane and polyureas coatings to cure anywhere from seconds to several hours depending on the product being applied. While this might be very beneficial to the customer, specialized application pumps, increased focus and attention to detail are critical. Fortunately Cor-Ray Painting Co. has the necessary industrial painting and coating equipment as well as the extensively trained personnel to apply these coating in a wide range of fields.

There are three main types of plural component coatings:

  • Epoxies
  • Polyurethane
  • Polyureas

Polyurea

You’ve probably heard of ‘LINE-X’ ™, used in spraying on cars and trucks and often sprayed as a bed liner. However there are a variety of industries that use Polyurea. Some of the benefits include: preventing corrosion, resist abrasion, prevent impact damage and provide a reliable waterproof lining to tanks, pipes, roofs, etc
